Carroll bounced back from a tough day Tuesday to defeat conference foe Perry Wednesday night. Carroll started their defense with a close call as Perry almost scored a run in the top of the first, but Carroll got their last out with a 1-4-3 play at first. Carroll responded in the bottom of the first with a three-run offensive inning. Slade Sibenaller grabbed an RBI single, Ty Nissen scored on an error, and Jack Troutman also grabbed an RBI single, giving Carroll the 3-0 lead. 

The Tigers shut down the Perry offense in the top of the second, and in their second go on offense, Carroll extended their lead even further. Seven Carroll batters got home in the bottom of the third, with the highlight being Sibenaller getting an in the park home run and giving Carroll the momentum with two outs in the half inning. Carroll’s seven runs gave them the 10-0 advantage going into the third. Another quick 1-2-3 inning for Perry came and went as Carroll returned in the bottom of the third with another big offensive performance. The Tigers added nine more runs to their large lead, taking a 19-0 lead after the third innings. Pitcher Ethan Loew was on the hill for Carroll for the first three innings where he did not allow any earned runs and only gave up one hit. 

Perry grabbed their lone run of the game in the top of the fourth inning, but the large Carroll lead was too much as the Tigers closed out the game with a 4-3 play at first to defeat the Bluejays 19-1. Carroll improves to 11-13 overall on the season and 5-11 in the Raccoon River Conference. Carroll closes out their busy week with a conference game against Ballard on Thursday, July 1st.

Ar-We-Va at Whiting

Ar-We-Va brought their A-game offensively as they took on Whiting in a winning effort Monday evening. 

Ar-We-Va and Whiting started off the contest by trading runs and ending the first inning tied at 1-1. After a scoreless second inning for both teams, Ar-We-Va started to widen the gap by scoring four runners in the top of the third inning. Will Ragaller had a big night offensively, going 3-5, clearing a double and triple, recording an RBI, three runs scored, and two stolen bases to boot. Whiting got a solo run of their own in the bottom of the third to cut down the Ar-We-Va lead to 5-2. 

The Rockets continued their hot offensive streak with another four run inning in the top of the fourth, extending their lead to 9-2. Harley Molina got the start on the hill for Ar-We-Va where in five innings pitched, he performed well, allowing two earned runs off four hits and a hit batter while recording eight strikeouts in his second pitching win of the season. Ar-We-Va and Whiting traded solo runs again in the sixth inning, taking the score up to 10-3. Ar-We-Va closed out the contest with yet another four run inning in the top of the seventh to take home the win 13-3. 

Ar-We-Va improves to 9-7 overall on the season. The Rockets wrap up their week of play with a road game against conference foe West Harrison on Friday, July 2nd.

South Central Calhoun held on defensively for eight innings, but was unable to hold on to the tie as Southeast Valley escaped with a win Wednesday night. 

Southeast Valley got the run game started off in the top of the first with a solo run, taking the early 1-0 lead. After another run scored in the top of the third extending the Southeast Valley lead to 2-0, South Central Calhoun responded in the bottom of the fourth. Kevin King’s lone hit of the game was a big one, a 2 RBI single that scored Andrew Anderson and Zach Trott to tie up the game at 2-2. 

Southeast Valley grabbed the lead back once again in the top of the sixth with a solo run, leading 3-2. South Central Calhoun got back to work in the bottom of the sixth, taking their first lead of the contest. Brennan Holder got his first homerun of the season for two RBI as three Titan runners got home, giving South Central Calhoun the 5-3 lead. In the top of the seventh, Southeast Valley brought the game back to their corner as they tied the game up once again at 5-5 and left South Central Calhoun scoreless in the bottom of the inning, bringing the contest to extra innings. 

South Central Calhoun attempted to stop Southeast Valley in the top of the eighth with Evan Jacobs on the hill. In his two and two thirds innings pitched, Jacobs allowed three earned runs off three hits and two walks. Despite staying strong throughout the entire game, the walk-off run was scored by Southeast Valley, giving them the 6-5 win in eight innings. 

South Central Calhoun continues their busy week with a non-conference match against IKM-Manning on Thursday, July 1st.

Coon Rapids Bayard at Ogden

Coon Rapids Bayard tied up their game against Ogden in the top of the third, but the Bulldogs pulled ahead late to defeat the Crusaders Wednesday night. 

Ogden got their offense going in the bottom of the first after a scoreless half inning for Coon Rapids Bayard. The Bulldogs got up 2-0 to start off the game. The Crusaders matched those two runs in the top of the second to tie the game up at 2-2. Ogden got another two runs added to their total to take back the lead at 4-2.

The Crusaders responded like they did in the top of the second by tying up the ball game at 4-4 in the top of the third inning. Gabe Obert and Preston McAlister both went 2-4 in their at bats, with an RBI and two RBI respectively. Kolby Culbertson had a great night offensively as well, going 3-4 and got two stolen bases. Ogden was unable to gain back the lead in the bottom of the third, but Coon Rapids Bayard couldn’t add runs to take the lead in the top of the fourth. The Bulldogs’ offense returned to form in the bottom of the fourth as they added two more runs to their score, taking back the lead once again at 6-4. 

Josh Ramirez on the hill for Coon Rapids Bayard went five innings pitched and allowed five earned runs off five hits, five walks, two hit batters, and recorded four strikeouts. Ogden brought home another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 7-4 and closed out the top of the seventh to defeat Coon Rapids Bayard. 

The Crusaders fall to 18-8 overall on the season. Coon Rapids Bayard continues a busy week with another road game Thursday, July 1st against Southeast Valley.

East Sac played a tough contest, but gained more game experience against Pocahontas Area Monday evening. 

Pocahontas Area got out quickly in the first two innings offensively, getting up 6-0. East Sac’s offense saw some good hitters with Dylan Thomsen going 2-3 with two singles and Tyler Wright going 1-3 with a double. The Raider’s defense got to work in the next three innings, keeping Pocahontas Area scoreless up until the top of the sixth. 

Pocahontas Area got their offensive hot streak going once again in the top of the sixth with another three runs scored, and six more in the top of the seventh to take the 15-0 lead. East Sac’s lone run was scored by Luke Wernimont in the bottom of the seventh as the Raiders fell to Pocahontas Area 15-1.

East Sac will wrap up their week with a Twin Lakes Conference match against South Central Calhoun on Friday, July 2nd.

Glidden Ralston continued on the road to the postseason as they faced off against Rolling Valley Conference foe West Harrison in a losing effort Wednesday night. Glidden Ralston started defensively in the top of the first, keeping West Harrison scoreless. Caden Smith started on the hill for the Wildcats, and in two innings pitched, allowed four earned runs off one hit and five walks while striking out four batters. 

West Harrison got on the board in the top of the second inning with two runs, and added more to their total in the top of the third with four runs, taking the 6-0 lead after three innings. West Harrison and Glidden Ralston got through the fourth inning without adding any runs to the board. Ultimately, West Harrison broke through in the top of the fifth with a five run inning offensively, and closed out the game defensively in the bottom of the fifth to win 11-0 over Glidden Ralston. 

The Wildcats close out their week with another tough Rolling Valley Conference game against Coon Rapids Bayard on Friday, July 2nd.
