A native of Wahoo, Nebraska, Zita was born on June 12, 1928, the daughter of Henry and Mary (Zimola) Hrdlicka. She graduated from high school in Wahoo and then moved to Carroll after her marriage to LaRoy “Roy” Comes on June 23, 1947. To this union, three children were born:  Robert, Ron, and Jeanne. Zita worked as a two-career lady. She simultaneously worked as a homemaker and a licensed real estate agent for Comes Real Estate and Insurance Company. Zita found the real estate industry fascinating. When she wasn’t in the office at work, she was at home taking care of the family.
Zita was a longtime member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the St. Lawrence Ladies Guild, and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. She was a fan of golfing, playing Bridge, reading, antiquing, and she also used to love dancing with her husband Roy at the Elks Club and Country Club. Zita’s favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, whether it be traveling the United States or a relaxing evening at home.
Those left to cherish Zita’s memory are her son Ronald (Terry) Comes of Omaha, Nebraska; daughter Jeanne (Mike) Wesely of Pine City, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren Stacey (Gregg) Holmes, Michael Comes, Allison (Paul) Brink, Lindsey Letcher, Lisa Johnson, Melissa (Dave) Mulvaney, and Natalie (Michael) Farrell; 1 step grandson Jake (Jenna) Paulsen; 9 great grandchildren; sisters Ruth Beranek and Sibyl Carr; brother Florian (Linda) Hrdlicka; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
