Waukee Man Charged With Committing Felony Burglary During Weekend Incident In Guthrie County

A Waukee man is facing felony burglary and a multitude of other charges following a domestic incident in Guthrie County over the weekend. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for help from a woman in Stuart at approximately 5:05 a.m. Saturday. Upon arrival, the deputy made contact with the female, who was locked in a vehicle in the driveway with an eight-month-old child. The victim stated she had gotten into a verbal argument with 23-year-old Triston Michael Ladwig earlier and she had left to stay at a relative’s house. It is alleged that earlier in the day, Ladwig broke into that relative’s house, but he fled on foot after 911 was called. The deputy was told Ladwig had returned, breaking through the back door and the door of a bedroom before physically attempting to take the infant. He allegedly wrested her phone away so she could not call for help, at which time she fled to the driveway and locked herself in the car of a mutual friend who had driven Ladwig to the location. Authorities believed he had fled the scene, but when the missing cell phone was pinged, it came back that it was still inside the residence. Ladwig was then taken into custody by the deputy with assistance from the Iowa State Patrol and Dallas County Sheriff’s Office. He was transported to the Guthrie County jail and charged with: second-degree burglary, a class C felony; third-degree theft, and child endangerment, aggravated misdemeanors; and obstruction of emergency communications domestic abuse, and fifth-degree criminal mischief, all simple misdemeanors.
