Carroll got the early lead and then held on to advance into Saturday Regional Semifinals against ADM. The Tigers traded punches with Perry in the 1st inning then landed a few right crosses to build a 7-2 lead in the 4th inning but missed a chance for the knockout punch in the 4th and Perry settled in and rallied to make things interesting.
Ava Gross led off the game with a single and scored on a triple by Chloe Gallegos. Brenna Goins came in to run for Gallegos and scored when the ball got away from Perry on a strikeout and Carroll was up 2-0 going bottom 1st. Perry answered, taking advantage of a Carroll error and back to back walks to tie the game at 2. Brielle Hinners tomahawked a high pitch to right-center to lead off the 2nd for Carroll. Her doubled set up the Tigers for a big inning. Makalie Kofron singled and Ava Gross doubled to drive in Hinners. Josie Ayala then had the first of her two doubles scoring Kofron and Gross to put Carroll up 5-2. Kofron kept her hot night at the plate going in the 4th with a leadoff double. Carroll had five doubles in the game, scoring the girls who doubled three times. Ava Gross had an infield single to put runners on 1st and 3rd and Ayala smacked her second 2-run double to put Carroll up 7-2. The Tigers looked poised to blow the game open up 7-2 and had runners on first and second with nobody out. Jayna Kenney settled down and struck out the next three batters and Perry hung in down 7-2. Carroll didn’t get another baserunner the rest of the game.
Perry kept their momentum in the bottom 4th and scored to cut it to 7-3. They appeared to be threatening in the 5th with a leadoff single but Camryn Schable induced a groundout to Ayala at shortstop and then Ayala stuffed Perry snagging a hard line drive for a L6-4 double play to end the inning. Ayala said after the game she could hear Parker Adams yelling 2nd base the whole time and knew they could get the double play. Perry leadoff the 6th with a single and then a walk and sac bunt set up a two run double by Lydia Olejniczak that made it 7-5. Alyssa Brant would take over in the circle for Schable and was able to induce a pair of groundouts to end the threat. The Tigers got Perry in order in the 7th to win 7-5.
Carroll out hit Perry 10-9 and were led by Ava Gross who had 3 hits including a double. Josie Ayala and Makalie Kofron both had 2 hits with Ayala doubling twice and Kofron doubling once. Ayala had 4 RBI to lead the Tigers. Chloe Gallegos tripled. Shay Sinnard had a great defensive play in the 1st inning cutting down a run at the plate from right field on a great throw. Camryn Schable went 5 1/3 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 earned runs with 4 strikeouts, 3 walks and 2 hit-by-pitch. Alyssa Brant pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing no hits and 1 baserunner.
Carroll takes the season series against Perry 2-1 and improves to 13-21 on the season as they head to 23-10 ADM on Saturday for the Regional Semifinal. ADM won both games with Carroll this season 8-2 on May 26th and 5-4 on June 17th.
