The City of Lake View is banning the use of large appliances within Camp Crescent due to the strain they put on the campground’s electric system. According to Administrator, Scott Peterson, the change goes into effect Thursday, July 15.
Peterson notes refrigerators and other appliance have not been an issue in the past because the campground was not generally at capacity. However, interest in camping has increased dramatically since the onset of the pandemic last March.
City officials note electric use at the campground for the month of June has risen by nearly 60 percent since 2018. Peterson says this is more than a matter of usage, though. The increased demand has resulted in some costly repairs.
Patrons are encouraged to do their part to conserve energy in addition to removing those outdoor appliances. Staff recommend campers turn off or limit air conditioner usage while away from their site and limit high-usage items, such as electric grills and smokers, during peak hours.
