Carroll blew the game open in the 2nd inning and then held on as Glenwood tried to rally in the 7th as they improve to 12-18 overall. The Tigers were down 1-0 heading bottom 2nd when Ethan Loew walked with the bases loaded, Jack Troutman singled and Ty Nissen drove in a pair of runs with a single, Colby Christensen kept it going with a RBI single and Tory Feldman capped the 7-run inning with a RBI single. The Tigers put 9 hits on the board and scored 10 runs without having an extra base hit. Glenwood responded with 3-runsin the 3rd but Carroll built the lead to 9-4 in teh 4th inning when Colby Christensen drove in a run with a single and then scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. Jack Troutman capped the Tigers scoring in the 5th, scoring on a wild pitch. Glenwood made it tight in the 7th scoring 4 times. Carroll gave up 3 unearned runs on 2 errors in the game.

Colby Christensen and Treyton Goins each had 2 hits to lead the Tigers. Christensen scored twice and had 2 RBI. Tory Feldman added a pair of RBI and Jack Troutman scored twice. The Tigers had 8 RBI on their 10 runs scored and stole 8 bases. Dreylen Schweitzer got the win going 3 2/3 innings, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs.

The Tigers wrap up the regular season on Tuesday at Fort Dodge.

Playoff Results 

Ar-We-Va Vs West Harrison- Class 1A District 15

It was a good start for Ar-We-Va, scoring a run in the top 1st and a run in the 3rd to go up 2-0. The game turned though in the 4th inning when West Harrison scored 6 times on 5 hits  with 3 walks and 2 Rocket errors. Ar-We-Va wasn’t able to respond and the Hawkeyes began to pull away with 3 more runs in the 5th and the final blow in the 6th with 3 more runs including the game ender on a wild pitch. The Rockets committed 4 errors in the game which led to 3 unearned runs. They also walked 8 batters and hit 2. The defense did have several nice plays as Jeffrey Molina made a nice throw from right field to stop a run from scoring, Luke Smith hit Will Ragaller at shortstop who threw a runner out at the plate. Conner Kirsch struck a batter out and Ragaller threw a runner out at 2nd for a K-2-6 double play. The Rockets also pegged a runner out at the plate on a wild pitch.

Cooper Kock scored in the 1st inning after he singled he stole 2nd base and took 3rd and home on wild pitches. They added a run in the 3rd with Will Ragaller singling and then stealing 2nd. He moved to 3rd on a ground out by Kock and then Conner Kirsch put down a terrific bunt on the suicide squeeze. The Rockets led 2-0 heading into the 4th. Cooper Kock was cruising through 3 innings having allowed only 3 walks in the game and had faced 10 batters heading into the 4th. He struck out the leadoff hitter in the 4th but then West Harrison strung together 5 hits, 2 walks and an error to take control.

Will Ragaller led Ar-We-Va with a pair of hits, Damon Ehlers added a hit and Cooper Kock had the other hit. Kock and Ragaller scored the runs and Conner Kirsch had the lone RBI.

Ar-We-Va finishes the season 10-10 in a nice bounce back season with a young group.

IKM-Manning At Tri Center- Class 1A District 15

This game was closer than the final score indicates as IKM-Manning battled and had a couple of chances to score and keep within striking distance but Tri Center kept edging away. The Wolves loaded the bases in the 3rd inning with 2 outs and didn’t score down 1-0. They loaded the bases again in the 5th inning down 5-0 with 2 outs and couldn’t score. Credit a very good Tri Center club that came up with plays when they needed to and their pitchers held the Wolves in check most of the night as IKM-Manning finished with 3 hits. Tri Center had 9 hits and scored runs in 4 of the 6 innings they batted. The Trojans scored an unearned run in the 1st inning then added 3-runs in the 3rd inning on 3 hits. They nearly put the game away in the 6th but Kaiden Berry tracked down a ball in right field and hit 2nd baseman Amos Rasmussen who threw out a runner at the plate to end the inning with the score 9-0.

Brody Blom, Amos Rasmussen and Lane Sams all had hits for IKM-Manning. Conner Richards pitched well against a team that was hitting over 400 coming into the game and finished with 6 strikeouts including three in a row in the 2nd inning after giving up a leadoff double. Richards went 5 2/3 innings, allowing 8 hits and 9 runs. He walked 4 and also hit 4.

The Wolves had their 3 game winning streak snapped and end the season 7-18.

Glidden Ralston at Coon Rapids Bayard- Class 1A District 12

Coon Rapids Bayard and Glidden Ralston met for a third time this season on Monday night where the Crusaders were victorious, moving on to the next round of the district playoffs.

Glidden Ralston started off with a strong offensive inning, getting John Whitver to second base and Caden Smith to first, but were unable to score any runs. Coon Rapids Bayard’s offense in the bottom of the first got on base plenty and scored often. The Crusaders went through their full lineup twice as each batter scored at least one run before the half inning was over.

Easton Hays, Kolby Culbertson, and Aaron McAlister were all walked to start off the top of the order for Coon Rapids Bayard. They turned walks into runs scored later on in that inning thanks to a strong offensive push. Lance Clayburg got an RBI double, Gabe Obert got an RBI flyout to center field for out number one and later a two RBI double, Preston McAlister got an RBI double and later an RBI single, Josh Ramirez got an RBI off a sac hit for out number two, and Tanner Oswald got an RBI double and a two RBI single. After one half inning, Coon Rapids Bayard put up 16 runs to take a 16-0 lead into the top of the second inning.

Preston McAlister for the Crusaders started on the hill for the first two innings, allowing no earned runs and recording two strikeouts, nabbing win number five on his season on the mound. Glidden Ralston’s response offensively came in the top of the fourth inning where Caden Smith scored on a wild pitch to cut down the Coon Rapids Bayard lead to 16-1. Johnny Bergmeier and Caden Wenck got on third and first respectively, but a line drive to the second basemen was the ball game as Coon Rapids Bayard picked up the 16-1 victory in the opening round of the district playoffs.

Coon Rapids Bayard improves to 22-8 overall on the season as Glidden Ralston’s season comes to an end with a final record of 2-17. The Crusaders have home field advantage on Tuesday, July 13th as they go up against Colo-Nesco in the second round of the district playoffs. Tyler Brunner will broadcast that contest on KIKD 106.7 with pregame coverage starting around 6:45.

Audubon Vs Woodbine at LoMa  Class 1A District 15

Audubon had a strong overall showing Monday night as they got the upset victory over Woodbine to advance to the second round of their district playoff bracket.

The Wheelers got their offense off to a good start in the bottom of the first inning, scoring two runners and taking the 2-0 advantage. Audubon extended that lead to 5-0 after three innings of impressive work on both offense and defense. Aiden Alt was on the hill from start to finish for the Wheelers, where in 5 innings of work, he did not allow any runs or earned runs, allowing four hits, four walks, and recording two strikeouts for win number four on the season individually on the hill. The defense behind Alt also performed well, recording a lone error, and on 15 total chances got 12 putouts.

Audubon was temporarily stopped in the fourth inning on offense, but they got back to work in the bottom of the fifth. The Wheelers extended their lead further with five runs scored and ended the contest in the fifth inning with a final score of 10-0. Alt, Braden Wessel, Gavin Smith, and Joel Klocke all went 2-3 on the night with Klocke recording three RBI.

Audubon improves to 10-16 overall on the season. The Wheelers advance to the second round of their district playoff bracket as they take on LoMa at LoMa on Tuesday, July 13th. Carroll Broadcasting will be at LoMa to cover the Audubon Vs LoMa game on 93.7 KKRL with pre-game coverage beginning around 6:45.

East Sac at OABCIG Class 2A District 16

East Sac came back down 10-2 early in their game against OABCIG to bring the game to extra innings, but fell just short of winning Monday night.

The OABCIG Falcons got runs on the board quickly in the contest, getting up 9-0 after the first two innings. East Sac in the top of the third responded well by chipping away at the OABCIG lead, bringing home two runners to cut down the lead to 9-2. After OABCIG added a run to their lead in the bottom of the third, making it 10-2, East Sac found success on offense.

East Sac started their offensive push with two runs scored in the top of the third inning, and another two added in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the OABCIG lead down further to 10-4. Preston Mauer had a good night offensively, going 1-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. East Sac was able to get on base plenty thanks to walks by the Falcons. The Raiders were walked nine times compared to their nine hits in the game.

The biggest inning for East Sac was in the top of the sixth where they scored five runs and got closer to the OABCIG lead at 10-9. Caleb Villhauer on the hill from the third inning onward got his defense back to shape as he only allowed two earned runs off five hits, two walks, a hit batter, and recorded a strikeout in six innings of work. East Sac tied up the ball game at 10-10 after scoring another runner in the top of the seventh, giving the Raiders a chance for a comeback victory.

OABCIG was unable to add a run in the bottom of the seventh, so East Sac led off once again offensively in the top of the eighth. Unable to grab the lead, East Sac had the chance to shut down the Falcons defensively to bring the game to a ninth inning. Ultimately, OABCIG was able to get the final walk-off run to win it in the eighth inning 11-10. East Sac’s season comes to an end with a final record of 4-16.

South Central Calhoun had a tough competitor in the first round of their district bracket as they faced off against ACGC Monday night.

The ACGC Chargers started off strong in the first two innings, racking up a 5-0 lead over the Titans of South Central Calhoun. The Titan’s offense was led by Brennen Holder who went 3-3 on the night and scored a run. ACGC and South Central Calhoun didn’t add any runs to the board in the third inning, but the Chargers returned in the fourth and fifth innings by adding four more runs, taking the 9-0 lead. Holder’s run was scored in the top of the sixth inning as he cut down the ACGC lead to 9-1. ACGC closed out the sixth inning by shutting South Central Calhoun defensively while the Chargers added two more runs to their total, to end the game in six innings with a final score of 11-1. South Central Calhoun’s season comes to an end with a final record of 1-23.
