Irma Gehling of Carroll

Irma Gehling, age 90, of Carroll, died Monday, July 12, 2021 at Regency Park Nursing Home in Carroll.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 16, 2021 at Holy Spirit Church- St. John Paul II Parish in Carroll.  The Celebrant will be Fr. Patrick Behm.  Music will be by Kathy Halbur, and the Holy Spirit Choir.  Lector will be Mollie Lappe.  Gift Bearers will be Diane Beberniss, Duane Gehling, and Doreen Lappe.  Eucharistic Minister will be Katie Hagan.  Casket Bearers will be Cody Gehling, Clint Gehling, Michael Beberniss, Joseph Lappe, Amanda Lappe, and Jessi Lappe.  Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.  The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the funeral mass.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.  There will be a Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas Rosary prayed at 5 p.m., and a Christian Wake Service will be held at 7 p.m.
Visitation will resume at Holy Spirit Church on Friday morning from 9:30 to 10:15 a.m.

Irma, the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Billmeier) Meier was born on March 28, 1931 on a farm near Roselle.  A lifelong resident of Carroll County, Irma attended country school near Manning, and later earned her G.E.D.
On October 19, 1950 Irma was united in marriage to Leonard Gehling at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning.  The couple lived near Manning until 1963 when they moved to a farm south of Carroll until 1981.  At that time they moved to their current home east of Carroll.  Over the years Irma worked as a cook at Holy Spirit School, Nurse’s Aide at St. Anthony Regional Hospital, J.C. Penny’s, and Sernetts.  She also offered childcare out of her home.  Irma enjoyed embroidery, reading, cooking, and gardening.  In retirement Irma volunteered for the Holy Spirit Ladies Guild.
Irma is survived by her children: Diane K. Beberniss of Carroll, Duane L. Gehling of Coon Rapids, and Doreen A. (Mike) Lappe of Carroll; 8 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren with 1 more expected soon.  Her siblings: JoAnn (Harold) Wittrock of Templeton, Melvin (Arlene) Meier of Manning, and Laverne Meier of Manning; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Irma was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Gehling in 2001; her parents: Joseph and Anna Meier, and her parents-in-law: Theodore and Catherine Gehling.
