Wall Lake To Use American Rescue Plan Funding On Water Tower Restoration Work

The Wall Lake City Council has put out a request for proposals for repair work on the community’s water tower. Clerk, Chris Rodman, says they recently learned of the potential issues while a contractor was on site repairing insulation on the structure.

According to Rodman, any work on the tower is usually hard on the entire water system, so city officials are hoping to combine several years of expected maintenance into a single project. If the tower pipe needs to be replaced, this would provide them an opportunity to do just that.

Depending on what work is deemed necessary, the total cost for the project could be anywhere between a few thousand dollars on the low end up to $135,000 on the high side. Rodman says they usually spread this work out over several years to lessen the impact on the budget, but an influx of federal money from the American Rescue Plan could cover up to 80 percent of the expenses.

He adds they anticipate bids to come in over the next several weeks. The council will then review the bids and determine if they want to move forward with the project. If work is necessary, Rodman says it will take place before winter.
