Additional Details Released Regarding Crop Dusting Aircraft Emergency Landing Near Carroll Tuesday

Local authorities have released more details on the emergency landing of a crop duster plane south of Carroll on Tuesday. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office reports they were notified at approximately 4:54 p.m. July 13 that an agricultural airplane had crashed in a field southeast of 220th Street and Mahogany Avenue, near Swan Lake. The pilot, who suffered no injuries in the accident, was identified as 50-year-old Lauren Greenhoff of Dell Rapids, S.D. He told authorities he was applying insecticide southbound to fields in that area when the engine of the Airtractor AT-401 failed, forcing him to make an emergency landing. During the landing, the plane impacted with a field terrace before coming to rest.  The aircraft is registered to Central Ag, LLC of Corsica, S.D. The Sheriff’s Office contacted the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) Pesticide Division regarding the accident. These agencies will be conducting a joint investigation.
