Bond has been set at $25,000 for a Carroll man who faces felony drug charges in District Court for Carroll County. According to court records, 56-year-old Michael Ohara Sherrod made his initial appearance Monday for controlled substance violations, a class B felony, possession of contraband in a correctional institution, a class D felony, and possession of a controlled substance, a serious misdemeanor. The charges stem from a March 21 arrest by the Carroll Police Department. Authorities say they located 18.5 grams of methamphetamine in individually wrapped packages and other narcotics on his person while Sherrod was being taken into custody on outstanding warrants from a previous encounter with law enforcement. The drugs were found after Sherrod had entered the jail, resulting in the additional charges. As of Thursday afternoon, Sherrod remained in custody at the Carroll County jail. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, July 22. The charges carry a combined maximum sentence of 30 years in prison and over $9,000 in fines.
