Two men suffered serious injuries in a head-on collision Wednesday near Vail. The Iowa State Patrol reports they responded to the scene on U.S. Highway 30, just east of 370th Street, at approximately 5:59 a.m. Thirty-six-year-old Wyant Lee Unruh of Carroll was traveling westbound on 30 in a 2016 Nissan Rogue. Thirty-year-old Luke Matthew Crampton of Vail was traveling eastbound in the passing lane on that segment of Highway 30 in a 2000 Toyota Camry. Unruh had just completed passing another vehicle and was in the eastbound lane, directly in the path of the Crampton vehicle. In an attempt to avoid a collision, Unruh steered the Nissan to the south, but not in time and the front passenger side of the Rogue collided with the front passenger side of the Camry. Both Unruh and Crampton were transported to Crawford County Memorial Hospital by Westside Emergency Medical Services and later transferred to an Omaha, Neb. hospital. Unruh has been cited for traveling on the wrong side of the road and passing with insufficient distance and/or inadequate visibility.
