The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has streamlined their website into a cohesive platform that can now be easily viewed on any device and is no longer dependent on driver needs or the internet bandwidth available. The final pieces to www.511ia.org were added late last month, allowing the old site that had those separate versions to be retired. Any users who have bookmarked the previous site will be automatically redirected to the new one. The 511 system will allow for account creation which will provide activity alerts for things such as construction or incidents on the routes or areas saved. You can also save your favorite cameras to more easily see the traffic situation on routes you wish to monitor. Any previous accounts have already been transitioned to the new site. With this launch, the Iowa DOT is also giving it a makeover with a brand new logo design and they are currently in the process of updating iOS and Android apps with new features that will be available in 2022. In addition, there will be adjustments to the 511 information on Twitter as the @statewide511 Twitter posts will no longer be retweeted to the @iowadot feed. The 511 website tracks traffic incidents, highway construction and weather impacts on state and U.S. Highways and interstates.
