Kuemper Falls to Panorama in District Finals on Saturday

Logan Sibenaller tripled and scored for Kuemper in the 1st inning as Kuemper built a 2-0 lead but Panorama rallied to tie the game in the 6th and pulled out the win in the 7th. The Knights were outhit in the game 10-3 but clung to the 2-0 lead behind the pitching of Austin Tigges and the defensive effort. Kuemper stranded seven guys on base and Panorama stranded 6 guys on base as both teams pitchers were in control most of the game.

Logan Sibenaller drilled the fourth pitch he saw from Drew Taylor to left-center for a triple to leadoff the bottom 1st. Blake Pottebaum grounded out to 2nd to score Sibenaller and Kuemper got the start they needed. After giving up a leadoff single in both the 1st and 2nd inning Austin Tigges settled in well getting Panorama in order in the 3rd and 4th innings. The Kuemper defense helped shut down Panorama early as Blake Pottebaum started a 6-4-3 double play to Luke Hicks in the 2nd to help end a threat with Panorama having a runner at 3rd base when the inning ended. Kuemper added to their lead in the bottom 3rd when Austin Tigges singled with 2 outs and Carter Putney came in to run for him. Cal Wanninger singled to move Putney to 2nd base and he would score on a fly ball dropped by the Panthers shortstop with 2 outs. Putney was running on the play with 2 outs and scored easily to make it 2-0.

The Knights threatened in the 4th when Benicio Lujano walked and was bunted to 2nd base by Max Irlmeier. Lujano advanced to 3rd but was stranded there. That was the last time the Knights threatened as Drew Taylor settled in and allowed only two baserunners in the 5th and 6th inning combined and neither got past 1st base.

Panorama had put the ball in play through 4 innings but only left two guys on base through 4 innings. They got a leadoff single in the 5th but weren’t able to advance the runner. Austin Tigges had really settled in during the middle innings but Panorama had the top of the order up to start the 6th inning and it was the third time through the lineup. Evan Taylor singled and moved to 2nd base on a sac bunt by Preston Walker. After a Drew Taylor groundout Dominic Walker singled to score Evan Taylor making it 2-1. Brice Taylor singled to put runners on the corners and Jake Weinkoetz singled to score the tying run. The Knights got out of trouble but the damage was done.

Ryan Klinge walked with 1 out top 7th and Evan Taylor was hit-by-pitch. Preston Walker singled to load the bases and Drew Taylor punched a single to right field to score 2 and Panorama had their first lead of the game. They added and insurance run on a sac fly and took a 5-2 lead to the bottom 7th. The Knights went down in order to Brice Taylor who came on to pitch the 7th.

Logan Sibenaller tripled and Austin Tigges and Cal Wanninger singled for Knights 3 hits. Blake Pottebaum had an RBI and Sibenaller and Carter Putney scored their runs. Austin Tigges pitched 6 innings, giving up 8 hits and 2 earned runs while striking out 4.

Kuemper finishes the season at 21-7-1.
