The Glidden City Council is working to correct an error discovered in their city code earlier this year. City Administrator, Brooke Peterson says they were recently contacted by their codification firm, Simmering-Cory of Storm Lake, regarding an issue that was created when Glidden updated its firework ordinance in 2019.

The code section that was unintentionally altered deals with urinating or defecating in public. According to Peterson, this is an extremely uncommon issue in Glidden and it likely would have gone unnoticed had it not been for the regularly planned code review. She says the council is not planning to alter the fireworks ordinance, but a full three readings are required to correct the omissions from other sections.

Peterson says the council will need to start over at the first reading if they choose to change any aspect of either ordinance. The first reading of the clarification amendments was approved at the council’s July 12 meeting. The second reading was scheduled for tonight’s meeting with the third reading slated for Aug. 9.
