Lytton turned out to be a “slice of heaven” for thousands of RAGBRAI riders on Monday morning as the first stop out of the overnight in Sac City. One of the many activities planned was a Guiness world record attempt at goat yoga. Organizers were saddened, however, to report there was an issue with a supplier of the goats for the event. Volunteer, Sara Pibal, says they were able to round up some goats and though they had plenty of participants to meet the human side of the equation, they couldn’t meet the requirements on the goat side.
It was still a lot of fun for everyone, Pibal says, as the goats got acclimated throughout the sessions. She says there have been a couple of things that have been big draws for riders.
Volunteer, Shannan Potts, specifically requested to work with chickens in tutus.
One of the goals for the organizers in Lytton was to make their stop the most fun one of the entire week. And Potts has heard from experienced riders that this not only ranks number one this year, but trumps the stops of years past. There are always a lot of people watching opportunities during RAGBRAI, but there were three riders that were hard to miss on Main Street. And, it was hard to get up close as riders lined up to have their selfies taken with the trio. Steve Kaiser of Ankeny, Tom (no last name given) of Ames and Carrie Zeisness of Ankeny wore special attire for the day. Tom says this is something they have done for three years.
Kaiser and Tom had the spectrum covered, from classy to trashy while Zeisness sported a tuxedo bike shirt. She adds they have known each other long enough that they are not embarrassed at all anymore. They all agreed that the crowd in Lytton was phenomenal and it was great to be back at RAGBRAI in 2021.
