Class 1A State Baseball Tournament – Quarterfinals

St. Albert and Lisbon went back and forth in their quarterfinal match, but it was the Falcons of St. Albert pulling out a strong 6th inning to get the win Monday afternoon. 

Lisbon started off the contest on offense where Tyler Scott was able to score off St. Albert’s wild pitch, giving the Lions the early 1-0 lead. St. Albert was able to respond and gain the lead thanks to Brendan Monahan crushing a two RBI double, giving the Falcons the 2-1 advantage. Lisbon bounced back on offense by tying up the ball game at 2-2 in the second inning. Alex Bock scored off a sac hit from Hunter Clark. Lisbon followed up that offensive performance with a good defensive inning, getting a forceout at third to end the inning and prevented St. Albert from adding any runs to the board. 

In the top of the third, Lisbon left a runner stranded on second that could have given them the lead. St. Albert used that defensive momentum in the bottom of the third to take back the lead at 4-2. Cy Patterson hit a deep ball to left field for a triple and was later scored by Monahan. Monahan was able to score off a wild pitch from Lisbon. The Lions cut down the St. Albert lead once again by adding a run in the top of the fourth thanks to Tyson Scott, leaving St. Albert with the one run lead at 4-3. 

The Falcons added another solo run in the bottom of the fourth to go back up by two runs at 5-3. St. Albert and Lisbon went scoreless in the fifth, but the sixth inning was where St. Albert got out in front of Lisbon for good. The Falcons scored four runners in the bottom of the sixth, taking the 9-3 run thanks in part to Jaxson Lehnen and Daniel McGrath. Lehnen and McGrath contributed four RBIs to score all four runners off loaded bases and Lehnen was scored by McGrath giving hima run scored. Lisbon got runners on third and second and looked for a late game rally in the top of the seventh, but St. Albert closed out the contest with a 5-3 putout to advance to Wednesday’s Semifinal game. 

Lisbon’s season comes to an end with a final record of 25-13. St. Albert will face off against the winner of Tri-Center and Alburnett at 12 pm Wednesday at Merchant’s Park.
