Two Storm Lake men and one woman were arrested after Storm Lake Police seized 27 pounds of marijuana and $67,000 in cash. The arrest occurred following a traffic stop for a minor infraction on Friday, at approximately 8:30 a.m. An officer identified the driver of the vehicle as 22-year-old Nang Khang and as he made contact with Khang, he noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. At that time, the vehicle was impounded and the car’s occupants, that also included 19-year-old Ka Ying Vang, 39-year-old Daniel Khang and two minor children, were released pending further investigation. A warrant to search the vehicle was issued on Friday afternoon, at which time the marijuana and cash were found. At approximately 6:30 p.m. that evening officers located and arrested the three suspects. Nang Khang and Vang have been charged with failure to affix a drug tax stamp and possession with intent to deliver marijuana, class D felonies, two counts of child endangerment, and keeping premises or vehicle for controlled substance violations, aggravated misdemeanors. Daniel Khang faced all of the same charges with the exception of child endangerment. Nang Khang and Vang were booked into the Buena Vista County jail on a $16,000 bond and Daniel Khang on a $12,000 bond. All were subsequently released by court order. The two minor children were removed from the parents’ custody and placed in the care of the Iowa Department of Human Services (DHS). The Buena Vista County Sheriff’s Office K-9 unit assisted with the investigation.
