Phyllis Dion of Carroll

Phyllis Edna Dion, age 77, of Carroll, IA, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at Accura Healthcare in Carroll.

      Funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, July 31, 2021 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll with Chaplain Angelo Luis officiating.  Casket bearers will be Phyllis’ family members.  Burial will be in the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery near Glidden.

     Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Carroll from 1 – 2 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service.

     Phyllis was born on August 3, 1943 in Carroll, IA, and she was the daughter of Kenneth and Frieda (Janssen) Hike.  She grew up in Carroll and Glidden and graduated from Carroll High School in 1961.  She was married to Jerry Dion on May 12, 1962 in a double wedding with her twin sister at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll.  The couple made their home in Minnesota and were married for 19 years.  They were blessed with four children: Sharon, Debra, Jeffrey, and Steven.  While living in Minnesota she worked for IBM.  The couple divorced and Phyllis moved back to Carroll in the late 1990’s.   Phyllis enjoyed collecting butterflies, birdwatching, crocheting, word search puzzles, visiting with her friends and spending time with her family.

     Phyllis is survived by her children and their families: daughter Sharon Neahring (Jack) of Nehalem, Oregon, daughter Debra Groll (Thomas) of Dodge Center, Minnesota, and son Jeffrey Dion of Largo, Florida; 8 grandchildren: 19 great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law Cynthia Dion of Clearwater, Florida; two sisters: Marilyn Winkel of Ft. Dodge and Patricia Leytham of Boone; a brother Paul Hike of Boone; a sister-in-law Monica Hike of Marion, IA, a brother-in-law Richard Kroeger of Denison; and several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

    Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Frieda Hike; a son Steven Dion in 2016; a grandson Kyle Neahring; and a sister Jo Ann Kroeger; and a brother Ray Hike.
