A week ago today (Wednesday), the City of Breda opened their pool for the first time this season after it was closed for nearly a year to complete much-needed repairs. According to Clerk, Nancy Janssen, the 54-year-old pool had started to deteriorate, requiring approximately $600,000 in improvements to keep it operational. She says the extensive overhaul work was finished earlier this month.

With that work now completed, the city was able to begin welcoming patrons last week. Janssen says it was wonderful to finally see the pool full of activity again.

More than half of the project was financed through a low-interest loan from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) for $360,000 that was made possible thanks to support from Western Iowa Networks (WIN) and their partner, Aureon. Janssen says the remain funds were generated through tremendous support from the community.

City officials thank all the businesses and residents who helped make this project a reality. The current plan is for the Breda pool to be open every day until school starts in August. They will then transition to weekends only through Labor Day. To celebrate the reopening, the Breda Community Club is sponsoring a free admission weekend on Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, Aug. 1 with a free ice cream treat for guests.
