Carroll Councilman Announces Bid For Mayoral Seat In 2021 Elections

The nomination paper filing window for city offices does not even open until Aug. 9, but one recent announcement has led to a second, official one, from a current Carroll City Council member. Jerry Fleshner, who says what was a rumor will become reality in a run for the Carroll Mayor’s seat.

He adds that there are some things he would like to see through to fruition and believes it will be advantageous to the city as whole for someone who has already been involved to be at the helm.

Fleshner has served the town he grew up in for more than those eight years. He sat on the Carroll Community School District Board of Education for two terms as well, and in both instances has said that he felt it was great to be on the boards, but knew when it was time to give someone else the chance.

Fleshner has spent most of his life in Carroll, with the exception of a few years after college. He says he really had no intention of moving back, but once he returned, he realized this was the fit for him and his family. Fleshner’s spirit of service is not only exemplified in his board positions, but is prevalent throughout his career. He is a pharmacist and owns Lincoln Highway Pharmacy and the Clinic Pharmacy within St. Anthony Regional Hospital. The relationships built throughout a lifetime in Carroll and his career give him a perspective on many aspects of the ambassadorship inherit with the mayoral role.

In looking back over his eight years as a councilman, Fleshner says he is proud of having seen the city/public partnership result in the new library and city hall spaces. And there is one other project he spearheaded that has resulted in a well-used community amenity.

Conversely, Fleshner says he is glad he cast a no vote on city entry signs—not because they wouldn’t be nice to have, but because the cost to benefit ratio just didn’t make sense to him. And as Fleshner looks ahead to beginning a campaign in the coming weeks, he says there are a few things he wants every Carroll voter to know about him.
