A Greene County community will be receiving a second year of funding as part of an expansion in a program promoting healthy eating and active living. The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has announced Scranton will be the recipient of a $15,000 grant through the 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! initiative, one of 11 Iowa communities to receive this allocation. The grants are to be used to create policies and foster environments that support the program goals throughout the community, at schools, in childcare and out-of-school programs, health care practices and workplaces. 5-2-1-0 Healthy Choices Count! is a nationally-recognized and evidence-based prevention framework that promotes healthy habits. Their goal is to increase physical activity and healthy eating through policy and environmental change with the focus on four simple daily health habits. These include: five or more servings of fruits and vegetables; two hours or less of screen time; one hour or more of physical activity; and zero sugar-sweetened beverages.
