The Move Back To Carroll Is A Homecoming For The Newest Officer

Carroll Police Chief, Brad Burke, says they are pleased to have experienced officer James Heller, whose family has a long history in local law enforcement, join the force.

Heller comes to Carroll from El Paso County in Colorado, where he spent four and a half years as a deputy in the region’s largest jail. However, he lived in Carroll up until middle school, when his family moved to Northwood and then West Bend. He says he routinely returned to Carroll at different points throughout the year to visit family and knew this area was where he wanted to be in this next step of his career. Heller says law enforcement was a natural transition for him with the service mindset, discipline and dedication honed over a 24-year military career.

Heller made the official move to Carroll last week and was sworn into office at Monday’s council meeting with his first shift work on Wednesday. Because he worked within the jail system, his training is focused on learning the ropes of being a patrol officer.

Heller has two daughters in Colorado.

As Heller gets acclimated to the job and the community, he says there is one common theme to the way he will interact with those he meets on a daily basis.

There is still one vacancy in the department. Chief Burke says they do have a spot secured in the next Law Enforcement Academy class that starts in August and they will be introducing a new hire in the near future. The full interview with Heller can be found below.
