12th Annual Sweet Corn Daze In Rockwell City Kicks Of Thursday

Get ready to celebrate all things sweet corn with the launch of the 2021 Sweet Corn Daze in Rockwell City later this week. Rockwell City bills itself as “the Golden Buckle on the Corn Belt” and have celebrated their ties to the quintessential summertime treat with a communitywide event for the last 12 years. The festivities begin on Thursday, Aug. 5 with the sweet corn run, walk or bike around Rockwell City at 7 p.m. with an evening swim at the pool from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Then on Friday, sweet corn lovers will gather at Webb’s Feed at 617 N. 1st St. for a dinner party in a corn field. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner served at 7 p.m. followed by live music from the Kriss Karr Band until 10 p.m. in the city square. Saturday, Aug. 7 is the main day of the celebration. The parade begins at 9:30 a.m. from the South Central Calhoun (SCC) Middle School, and the Sweet Corn Daze Princess will be crowned at 10:30 a.m. at the bandstand. The rest of the day is filled with fun for all ages, including: free face painting, children’s inflatables, the tough kid contest, a sweet corn eating contest and much more. They will close out Saturday night with the beer garden and street dance on the northeast side of the square.
