Born on April 10, 1939 in Carroll, Mary K was the daughter of John and Bernie (Hausmann) Bohling. She grew up in Maple River, but at a young age, her family moved to Carroll. Mary K attended Carroll schools and graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1957. Following high school, she went to business school in Omaha. For a short time, Mary K worked at a bank. On June 23, 1962, Mary K married Joseph R. Sporrer at St. Lawrence Church with Rev. Hausmann, Mary K’s uncle, officiating. This union was blessed with eight children. Mary K stopped working once she got married to stay at home to care for her children and assist with the farm. In her retirement years she returned to work, working at Pac ‘n’ save, Dollar General, and Frohlich’s Grocery, where she loved visiting with all the customers.
Mary K was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and the Ladies Guild at church. In the late 1970s, she and Joseph were also members of the Carroll County Pork Producers. Mary K enjoyed her crafts, cross stitching, embroidering, reading, playing cards, and especially her flower beds. She was a busy lady. She did a lot of canning from her garden and orchard. Raising eight children and helping on the farm when needed was Mary K’s life, but a life she loved because family was her most important love. She enjoyed time with her grandchildren and watching them grow.

Dodge, Glen Sporrer of Dedham, Connie (Barry) Hulse of Grimes, Ann Sporrer of Dedham, and Kris (Chad) Campbell of Grimes; 10 grandchildren:  Elizabeth (Tom) Hofmeister, Isaiah Sporrer, and Samantha Sporrer all of Wisconsin, Lindsey Sporrer and Rachel Sporrer both of Ft. Dodge, Emma Hulse, Macie Hulse, Kelson Campbell, and Jacob Campbell all of Grimes, and Garret Sporrer of Dedham; 1 great grandchild: Harper Hofmeister of Wisconsin; sister:  Ruth (Pat) Lubischer of Kansas; nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
