A Mt. Carmel family’s sunflower sale over the weekend ended up raising over $8,000 for the St. Anthony Cancer Center in Carroll. According to Mark Nepple, his family has a history with cancer, with his mother, father and sister all having been diagnosed at various times in his life. It was the second cancer diagnosis for their mom, Debra, that inspired the family to host a fundraiser to benefit patients and staff at the hospital by selling fresh-cut flowers for a freewill donation. The good news started rolling in before the fundraiser when the family learned Debra would not need chemotherapy for her latest round of treatment. Nepple says the positivity continued into Sunday’s sale as they easily surpassed their expectations for the fundraiser.
They tallied the donations Monday night with $6,668 collected during the fundraiser with an additional $1,200+ in contributions to the St. Anthony Foundation through Venmo (@StAnthony-Foundation). Nepple says the sale was such a success that they are now thinking about doing it every summer.
He adds it was truly incredible to see so many people come out to support a cause that has affected almost everyone in some manner. On behalf of his family, Nepple thanks everybody who helped make Sunday such a success.
