On Tuesday, Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Ankeny hosted a ribbon cutting for the new Karl Chevrolet Automotive Training Center. The center has been named after Carl and Penny Moyer following their $1 million donation. “The DMACC Automotive program has been good for not only us, but for all dealers in Iowa,” Carl says. “With the industry growth today, it is great to have such an amazing facility and program in our area to help us and be part of our future. Penny and I are thankful that we are able to leave a legacy to such a great college that will serve our state and youth for years to come.” The donation spearheaded the renovation and expansion of more than 60,000 square feet and added 22 additional vehicle work bays, new classrooms, a student lounge, a conference center and state-of-the-art showroom. “This is part of our ongoing mission to be among the national leaders in education and training, enabling DMACC to offer countless opportunities for our students to find employment in the evolving, high-tech world of automotive technology,” says DMACC President, Rob Denson. “Our students receive an outstanding experience here, and our students are work-ready when they graduate.” The DMACC automotive programs include: automotive technology; General Motors Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP); Ford ASSET (Automotive Student Service Educational Training); MOPAR Career Automotive Program (CAP); Honda PACT (Professional Automotive Career Training); Subaru-U; auto chassis and power train diplomas; automotive maintenance and light repair technology; and auto engines and tune-up diplomas.
