The Iowa Transportation Commission spent two days in the Carroll area, starting with a tour on Monday followed by their business and public input meetings on Tuesday morning. One of the first items of business was the announcement on the awarding of a Revitalize Iowa’s Sound Economy (RISE) grant for a business located in Audubon County. Director of the Systems Planning Bureau, Craig Markley explains.
The business, Puck Enterprises of Manning, will be generating jobs with the improvements and expansion currently underway at their site.
Markley recommended that the RISE grant be set at $261,663 or 80 percent of the total cost estimated at just over $327,000, whichever is less. The commission unanimously approved the grant. The industry leading liquid transfer manufacturer has broken ground on a 100,000 square-foot addition at their main campus south of Manning. The new building will be connected to the current manufacturing line and warehouse and will triple existing assembly space and double the number of welding bays. Since 2010, Puck has expanded not only their main campus, but also into satellite locations in Farley, Worthington, S.D. and Osijek, Croatia. During the Tuesday morning meeting, the Iowa Transportation Commission also heard from city and county leaders on joint projects as well as the pros and cons of U.S. Highway 30 expansion to a four-lane highway. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on those discussions in upcoming newscasts.
