Updated Maps For Iowa Cyclists Now Available

The Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) is distributing free paper versions of their 2021/22 Iowa Bicycle maps. These are available at Iowa DOT driver’s license centers, county treasurer’s offices, the six Iowa DOT district offices, in rest areas and welcome centers. There is also an interactive online version that is available through the link included below. The popular publication has been updated to include new four-foot paved shoulders and recreational trails completed since the 2019/20 version was published. As in past publications, the map highlights bike-friendly routes when traveling on two wheels through Iowa by identifying bike trails and traffic levels on all paved roads as well as the inclusion of inserts for Iowa’s 16 largest cities. A section of the map is dedicated to reminding cyclists about the rules of the road and describing safety measures such as helmet wearing, using lights at night and being alert to road hazards.
