The 2021/22 school year at South Central Calhoun (SCC) gets underway next Monday, Aug. 23, and Superintendent, Brad Anderson, has a message for returning students.
And for parents as well.
This (Monday) morning, the board approved their Return to Learn and COVID-19 mitigation plans. Anderson says they are still taking the situation very seriously, particularly on the sanitation side of things.
He says they will treat COVID as they would any other sickness in the building, with a thorough understanding of its seriousness. Masks cannot be mandated inside the schools. On the buses, Anderson says their optimal position is to give parents the choice. New teachers start Tuesday and Anderson says early retirement and other situations means they have quite a few new faces.
The rest of the teaching staff returns on Wednesday. Over the course of the break, Anderson says there was some work done on facilities, but it was a fairly traditional year as far as maintenance is concerned. He says they updated the gym floors and spent a lot of time in classrooms. This included the replacement of tile and carpeting and doing deep cleanings. They also completed some landscaping. Anderson and the rest of the staff are more excited about bringing back mentoring and professional development programs for this year.
The open houses will be held on Thursday, Aug. 19 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. Parents and students are all invited to attend and bring in their school supplies in preparation for next Monday’s classes.
