$5,000 In Cash Prizes Up For Grabs During This Weekend’s Black Hawk Men’s Club Carp Contest

A popular carp fishing tournament will be returning to Black Hawk Lake this weekend for the first time in nearly a decade. The Black Hawk Men’s Club Carp Contest was last held in 2012 prior to an Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) lake-wide fish kill to remove carp and improve water quality. With the carp population growing again, the Men’s Club felt now was a great time to bring the tournament back. Organizer, John Snyder, says anglers who choose to participate are in for a fun-filled weekend.

Ten tagged fish will be released into the lake before the tournament starts, and each one returned during weigh-ins is worth $500. Entry fees are $10 per angler, and Snyder says registration is as easy as stopping by the shelter house in Town Bay Saturday morning.

The Black Hawk Men’s Club is excited to bring the Carp Contest back this year, but it likely won’t become a yearly event like it was in the past. Snyder says contractors have been hired to remove rough fish from the lake.

According to Snyder, every dollar raised from the Carp Contest goes back to support local programs and activities.

Anglers of all skill levels are invited to participate. Again, the Carp Contest runs from 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 21 through 11 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 22. For more information, visit the Black Hawk Men’s Club Facebook page using the link included below.
