Prison Sentence Suspended For Carroll Man Accused Of Drug And Weapon Charges

A 10-year prison sentence handed down against a Carroll man accused of drug trafficking and weapon charges has been suspended as part of an agreement with prosecutors. According to Carroll County District Court records, 28-year-old Dustin Duane Hill pled guilty to possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class C felony, and acquisition of a pistol without a permit, an aggravated misdemeanor. In exchange for Hill’s guilty pleas, the prison sentence was suspended, and he was instead placed on probation to the Iowa Department of Correctional Services for a period not to exceed five years. Nearly $1,500 in fines, surcharges and restitution were also suspended. Hill was arrested following a Carroll Police Department investigation into a reported gunshot on Dec. 29 in the 900 block of Woodland Drive. A search of Hill’s residence located a substance later identified as methamphetamine, a scale, plastic baggies and a firearm that had been reported stolen from a nearby residence.
