Rodeo fans are invited to Lake City this weekend for one of the last rodeos of the season in the area. The Honey Creek Summer Series show kicks off Saturday night with the Chris Thompson Memorial Bull Ride at 7 p.m. Honey Creek Sponsorship Coordinator, Rose Gentner, says the event is being held in honor of the longtime Lake City firefighter who passed away earlier this summer.
The Honey Creek Rodeo Series differs from other rodeo organizations, as they put an added emphasis on growing the sport through youth participation. Gentner says they do have full-sized participants lined up for the weekend, but there is the added fun of the miniature rodeo as well.
The rodeo continues into Sunday and begins at 10 a.m. She says people are encouraged to stop by the rodeo grounds early to join the riders in a non-denominational church service.
The Top Rail Saddle Club is sponsoring a beer garden on Saturday night and concessions will be available both Saturday and Sunday at the arena. Gentner says the Chris Thompson Memorial Bull Ride is something they are planning to make an annual event.
Tickets are $10 per person, but firefighters and children six years old and younger will be admitted for free. For more information on this weekend’s event or the Honey Creek Rodeo Series, follow the links included below.
