Carroll Will See Two Improvements In Recreational Areas In The Coming Months

The City of Carroll is moving ahead with two recreation projects, the first being the construction of a parking lot at Northeast Park. This will provide access to Kellan’s Kingdom all-inclusive playground and the Miracle Field softball/baseball complex. Parks and Recreation Director, Jack Wardell, says five bids were received.

Once design fees are added, the total estimated cost for the parking lot is at $311,967. Local Option Sales Tax (L.O.S.T.) funds will be used to cover the expenses. The new lot will have a total of 47 parking spaces and construction is anticipated to begin and be completed yet this year. Wardell has also reported that a local business wants to make a donation of scoreboards for the Youth Sports Complex.

Wardell says they are working on other options to cover the costs of any not purchased by SeaBoard foods.

Wardell says the three boards have been replaced only one time in the past 17 years and are beginning to show signs of wear and are having technical issues. The newly designed scoreboards would include the SeaBoard Foods logo at the bottom with an estimated cost of about $4,400 each. Wardell adds there is no rush toward installation yet this year since they would not be needed until next spring. Seaboard Foods, based out of Merriam, Kan., produces Prairie Fresh Pork® through their feed mills, farms and processing plants in five states. They have 35 farms in the Carroll area.
