Classes begin next week for the Ar-We-Va Community School District, and the school will be bringing its entire teaching staff into the new year. According to Superintendent, Jeff Kruse, one of the chief benefits of working in a smaller school is the sense of community among teachers, students and families. He says the fact that none of their educators or administrators chose to leave for a larger district is proof of that.
Following the shortened 2019-20 and challenging 2020-21 school years, most people are looking forward to what should be a relatively normal year by comparison. The Ar-We-Va school board does not meet until next Monday to approve its updated Return to Learn plan, but Kruse outlines the main points.
School officials took advantage of the summer break to complete maintenance work at their facility in Westside. Kruse says the projects were not substantial, but students and staff will notice a few differences when they return to class.
The half-day class sharing agreement with Carroll High School remains in place, so Ar-We-Va will follow Carroll’s schedule and begin classes on Wednesday, Aug. 25. Kruse says educators are looking forward to seeing students back in the hallways and classrooms.
Families can use the district’s website, www.ar-we-va.k12.ia.us, to stay in touch with school-related announcements, events and newsletters.
