Adams says while working with owner, Terri Ruchti, he got to know the entire Ruchti family well. He says he couldn’t help but see what a caring woman Marilyn was and how much she believed in and supported Carroll and the hospital. This tournament, Ruchti says, is a way for them to honor that very special woman he calls mom.

Marilyn passed away two years ago from colon cancer. Ruchti’s father also died from cancer, but at that time, they drove him weekly to and from Des Moines for treatments. Having cancer impact his life so dramatically, first with his father and then as his mother was treated here in Carroll, led Ruchti to support of the phenomenal new cancer center.

Adams says there are a couple of ways people can show support. One is by joining in the fun.

The other, Adams says, is by becoming a sponsor. Friends of the family can also be hole sponsors for $100. Last year, they raised more than $20,000 for St. Anthony and their goal this year is to hit a mark between $40,000 and $50,000. There are hole and registration prizes along with drawings throughout the day. The shotgun start is at 10 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 12 at the Carroll Country Club. Harley Davidson of Carroll has set up a special SnapChat filter that is linked to their location just off of Highway 30. They encourage everyone to use this filter to show their support for cancer patients and the St. Anthony Cancer Center. Contact details for signing up or becoming a sponsor are available below.
