Calhoun County authorities are honoring fallen Rockwell City Police Officer, Jamie Buenting, on the eighth anniversary of his death in the line of duty. The incident occurred on Sept. 13, 2013 at approximately 1:40 a.m. A suspect, Corey Allen Trott, who was wanted on felony warrants for theft and assault causing bodily injury, had barricaded himself in a residence on Pleasant Street. During the standoff, Trott fired one shot that struck and killed 37-year-old Buenting. Buenting had 12 years of experience in law enforcement, having served eight years with the Rockwell City Police Department. He left behind a wife and two young children. Trott was charged with and found guilty of first-degree murder in 2014. He is currently serving a life sentence at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Fort Madison.
