Kuemper picked up their 9th straight win and did so in strong fashion, sweeping St Albert in a battle of ranked teams. The Knights pulled out two tight wins in the two sets before dominating the 3rd set on their way to a 13-4 overall record and 4-2 record in the Hawkeye 10. Kuemper looked really good in the back row and got their typical strong night hitting the ball with five players between 5 and 11 kills.
Ashlyn Badding helped the Knights build an early 4-0 lead in set one. The Saintes wouldn’t go away as the Knights lead bounced back and forth from 2 to 4 points after the Saintes cut it to 5-4. Kuemper extended the lead to 6 midway through set 1 and appeared to be in control as Sophie Badding and Frannie Glynn were controlling the match at the net on offense. St Albert battled back to tie it at 20 and took their first lead at 23-22. Kuemper responded with a kill from Kamryn Venner to tie it at 23 and then a kill from Frannie Glynn tied it at 24. Glynn followed that with an ace serve and Kuemper got a kill from Kamryn Venner to win the first set 26-24.
St Albert jumped out early in set two only to have Frannie Glynn respond with another service run, putting Kuemper ahead 8-7. The second set had 9 ties and 5 lead changes with Kuemper grabbing the lead at 16-15. There were 4 more ties in the set at 20, 21, 23 and 24. Sophie Badding put Kuemper ahead 2-0 with a kill that ended the set 26-24.
Kuemper never really in trouble in set 3. The Knights went up 3-0 early and then went on a 6-0 run with Kaci Peter serving and led 14-49. St Albert never got closer than 9 the rest of the set.
Kenzie Schon had a lot of success hitting line as the Saintes were looking to block cross and finished with a team high 11 kills, Sophie Badding was terrific all night and had 10 kills, Kamryn Venner made some clutch kills late in set 1 and finished with 6 kills, Frannie Glynn added 6 kills and Kaci Peter had 5 kills. Ashlyn Badding had 36 assists. Glynn had a team high 4 aces. Kenya Prescott led a back row with 13 digs. Prescott, Kamryn Venner, Avarie Pedelty and Melinda Schaefer did a really nice job in serve receive.
The Knights travel on Sunday to the CYO Tournament.

Carroll fought tooth and nail Thursday in close set after close set, but ultimately fell to Winterset in four sets.
The Tigers looked tough in set one as they were able to squeeze past Winterset for a 25-22 set win. Hannah Jorgensen was a big part of the Tiger’s defense as she led the team with 18 digs, while Josie Ayala attacked the ball well and led the Tigers with 17 kills. Winterset was able to adjust and comeback to win set two by 10 points at 25-15. The Tigers weren’t ready to throw in the towel quite yet, as they battled in set three, but fell by a close 25-22 margin. Kaitlyn Tigges was another player for Carroll that performed well, as she recorded 38 assists and was a big part of getting the ball set for Ayala and Chloe Ludwig, who recorded 10 kills.
Set four was the closest set of the night, with Winterset and Carroll giving it their all. The Huskies had the slight edge over Carroll and were able to win set four 25-23 and win the match. The Tigers fall to 7-7 on the season. Carroll will host their tournament this Saturday, September 18th and are scheduled to play Ar-We-Va, IKM-Manning, Fort Dodge, and Newell Fonda.

Ar-We-Va continued their busy week with a home game against Woodbine, where the Rockets fell to the Tigers in three sets.
The Rockets kept set one close, tying Woodbine at 2-2 and leading 5-2 at the start of the set. After the Rockets got down 11-8, Woodbine started to inch away and gain control. The Tigers went on an 8-0 run, taking a 19-8 lead and eventually overcoming the Rocket defense with a 25-15 set one win. Set two wasn’t in Ar-We-Va’s favor as Woodbine got out to an early lead and didn’t let up, winning set two 25-6.
Ar-We-Va had some bright moments in the back row, with Jamie Hausman and Maggie Ragaller recording seven and nine digs respectively. But, the duo of Whitney Kuhlman and Addison Erickson brought height in the front row and power in the back row that was tough for Ar-We-Va to counter. Set three for Ar-We-Va was closer in the beginning being down 10-5, but Woodbine once again took over and won set three 25-13 and won the match in three sets.
Ar-We-Va is in action next on Saturday, September 18th where they will be playing in the Carroll tournament with matches against Carroll, Storm Lake, and Humboldt.

East Sac had a productive and successful night against Storm Lake St. Mary’s and Manson NW Webster in their triangular Thursday night, going 2-0 in matches and 6-0 in sets.
The Raiders started off the triangular against Storm Lake St. Mary’s where they made quick work of the Panthers in set one and two. East Sac won set one 25-13 and set two 25-15 thanks to the efforts of Meredith Brown who led the team with 14 kills and Paige Wunschel who set the ball well and recorded 11 assists. East Sac had to work for their win in set three as Storm Lake St. Mary’s fought back well. Ultimately, the Raiders were able to pick up the win in set three 25-18.
In match number two, the Raiders took on Manson NW Webster and had a close three sets. In set one the Cougars made the Raiders work for the win, but eventually East Sac was able to win by six points at 25-18. Sets two and three both finished with the same score and the Raiders winning by a nine point spread at 25-16. Kate Vondrak in this match led the team with 14 kills, while Meredith Brown was not too far behind her with 10 kills.
East Sac improves to 15-7 overall on the season. The Raiders have a sizable break from action until next Thursday, September 23rd where they are on the road against Emmetsburg.

Audubon nearly had a huge win as they led Tri Center 2-1 and were playing very well on Thursday. The Wheelers block gave Tri Center a lot of trouble on the night, finishing with 16 blocks. They did a nice job scrambling and kept things in play and got big nights swinging from Jaci Christensen and Mattie Nielsen.
The Wheelers came out early and set the tempo with their block which helped get their hitters going. They were able to pull out the tight win and had the momentum. Tri Center adjusted in set two and started to tip, giving the Wheelers trouble. The Trojans evened the match at a set apiece. Audubon played one of their best all-around sets in set 3 and took control of the match up 2-1. The veteran Trojans were going away, they took and early lead and held on as the Wheelers battled back and tied the match at 2. Tri Center controlled the 5th set and pulled out the win to move to 12-4 while Audubon slipped to 5-5.
Kali Irlmeier dominated at the net with 11 blocks. Jaci Christensen and Mattie Nielsen each had 11 kills to pace the offensive attack. Aleah Hermansen and Addie Hocker were both good in the setter role with Hermansen finishing with 13 assists and 5 kills while Hocker added 12 assists and 5 kills. Mattie Nielsen continues to play extremely well in the back row and finished with 10 digs, Jaci Christensen added 13 digs and Kylee Hartl had 11 digs. Audrey Jensen and Christensen led the team with 2 aces each.
The Wheelers head to the AC-GC Tournament on Saturday.

South Central Calhoun picked up a pair of Twin Lakes Conference wins, improving to 11-11 on the season. The Titans controlled the match against West Bend Mallard, winning the first two sets by a combined 26 points before pulling out a 25-19 win in set 3. The Titans had 28 kills in the match with seven different players having at least 1. The Emmetsburg match was closer with double digit wins in sets one and three and a tough 25-19 win in set 2. They swung better against the E-Hawks and finished with 33 kills while giving up 19. The Titans were sharp in the back row against Emmetsburg and finished with 26 digs. They added 7 aces
Riley Batta led the Titans with 12 kills vs Emmetsburg, Keira Hammen and Brenna McAlister both had 7 kills. Jayci Graeve finished with 25 of the teams 27 assists. Riley Batta had 3 of the teams 7 aces. Batta led the team in kills vs West Bend Mallard with 10, followed by 6 from Keira Hammen and 5 from Brenna McAlister. McAlister had a team high 4 aces.

Coon Rapids Bayard played their best match in the last couple weeks and picked up a sweep over West Harrison. The Crusaders dominated the first set, winning by 15 points. They build big enough leads in sets two and three that they were able to get young players in and won by 6 in set two and by 2 points in set 3. The win improves Coon Rapids Bayard to 5-9 overall.
Breeley Clayburg had a team high 7 kills, Brynn Bass added 6 kills and was part of a great serving night for the Crusaders with 6 aces. Mia Leighty and Mallory Leighty each had 4 kills. Gracy Johnson led the setters with 10 assists while Haley Halbur had 9 assists to go with 5 aces. Breeley Clayburg added 3 aces. Lacie Davis led the back row with 6 digs, Lydia Hofbauer and Brynn Bass each had 5 digs.

Glidden Ralston grabbed a strong set win and two close set losses against Boyer Valley Thursday night in their four set loss.
In set one, the Wildcats competed well against the Bulldogs almost winning the set, but falling short by a score of 25-23. Set two was slightly more favorable for Boyer Valley, but Glidden Ralston still hung on closely, falling by a score of 25-20. The Wildcats had four different players record kills, with Alicen Dreessen, Paige Klocke, and Lauren Hulsing leading the team with four kills each. Tiela Janssen also played well in the back row, leading the team with 13 digs. Set three was by far the best set for Glidden Ralston, coming out and dominating from start to finish. The Wildcats won set three by 16 points by a score of 25-9. Despite the quick turnaround, Boyer Valley had a quick turnaround of their own, and took over set four and won 25-8 to win the match in four sets. Stats for this match are not available at this time. The Wildcats will compete on Saturday, September 18th at the ACGC tournament.

Underwood in set two created trouble for the IKM-Manning defense and defeated the Wolves 25-10. Underwood picked up the match win by winning set three by a score of 25-11.
