A Sac City man now faces felony drug possession charges in Carroll County District Court. According to court documents filed Tuesday, 61-year-old Doug Edward Lents faces one count of third or subsequent offense possession of methamphetamine, a class D felony. A Carroll County Sheriff’s Office affidavit says authorities seized a glass smoking device and two baggies containing substances believed to be methamphetamine during a routine traffic stop in Carroll on March 17. Test results from the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) laboratory confirmed law enforcement’s initial assessment, and Lents was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant earlier this month. His arraignment hearing has been scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 23. A class D felony in Iowa carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and $7,500 in fines.
