Volleyball Results for Saturday, September 18th
Ar-We-Va, IKM-Manning and South Central Calhoun At Carroll Tournament
Humboldt topped Newell Fonda in the championship match after the two knocked off a pair of local teams in the semifinals. Carroll finished second in their pool to Newell Fonda after winning the 1st set in pool play, but the Tigers would drop the next two sets 21-14 and 15-9. South Central Calhoun was 2nd in their pool with their only loss to Humboldt in pool play, falling in a close first set. Carroll challenged Humboldt in set one losing 21-17 in the semifinals and lost the second set 21-12. South Central Calhoun took on Newell Fonda in the semifinals and split the first two sets, falling 21-14 and then winning set two 21-11. The Titans couldn’t advance to the finals as the Mustangs won set three 15-8. The Tigers finished the day going 2-2 in matches and 5-4 in sets. South Central Calhoun went 2-2 in matches and 5-4 in sets.
Ar-We-Va and IKM-Manning both finished the day 0-3 in matches. The Rockets were 1-6 in sets, topping Storm Lake 21-19 in set two before falling in set three 15-10. IKM-Manning went 0-8 in sets, with their best match against Fort Dodge, falling 21-16, 21-19 in their final match of the day.
Carroll had some nice individual performances as they executed well on offense. Josie Ayala led them at the net with 21 kills, Chloe Ludwig and Alyssa Brant each had 13 kills and Camryn Schable added 7 kills. Kaitlyn Tigges found eight different hitters on the day and finished with 57 assists. Hannah Jorgensen continues to play well as the Libero, having 30 digs. Josie Ayala added 19 digs and Kaitlyn Tigges had 18 digs. Chloe Ludwig had 6 aces and Alyssa Brant had 5 aces.
Riley Batta and Brenna McAlister both had good days swinging as Batta led South Central Calhoun with 26 kills and McAlister had 17. Keira Hammen added 7 kills. Jayci Graeve finished with 48 assists and set 6 different players. Kylee Schleisman and Brenna McAlister each had 19 digs while Riley Batta and Jayci Graeve finished with 8 each. Keira Hammen had a team high 5 blocks, Sayer Steig led the team with 6 aces and Hammen added 4.
Jamie Hausman paced Ar-We-Va with 5 kills, Kora Obrecht and Maggie Ragaller each had 4 kills, Delaney Schurke finished with 13 assists. Maggie Ragaller led the Rockets with 11 digs while Delaney Schurke and Kora Obrecht each had 7. Maggie Ragaller and Timberlen Koch both finished with 5 blocks and Sammie Hinners added 4. Sophie Jackson, Kora Obrecht and Jamie Hausman had team high 3 aces each.
Kylie Powers led IKM-Manning with 7 kills, Taylor Ferneding had 12 assists and Amber Halbur finished with 7 assists. Bianca Cadwell paced the Wolves with 11 digs.

Audubon and Glidden Ralston at ACGC Tournament
Glidden Ralston and Audubon competed Saturday at the ACGC tournament where both teams had good sweeps against opponents and a close matchup against each other.
In their match against each other, Audubon and Glidden Ralston took their game to three sets and extra points. Glidden Ralston was able to get the set one win 22-20, and Audubon in set two grabbed the win with the exact same score, 22-20. Glidden Ralston’s Tiela Janssen was a strong back row player, recording 12 digs against Audubon’s Mattie Nielsen, who had 14 kills in that game. Set three was more back and forth between the Wheelers and Wildcats, but it was the Wheelers who were victorious in set three by a close 17-15 final score.
In their other games played, Audubon started off their day with a strong 2-0 sweep of Nodaway Valley. The Wheelers took set one convincingly 21-10 and performed well in set two, winning it 21-16. Jaci Christensen led her team in that match with five kills, with Audrey Jensen, Aleah Hermansen, and Nielsen all recording three kills each. In their match following the one against Glidden Ralston, they were taken to three sets once again by Exira-EHK and fell short. The Wheelers won set one 21-19, and then the Spartans won set two by that margin. Another extremely close set three saw the Spartians pick up their first win of the season with an 18-16 win. Christensen had another strong offensive showing, recording 10 kills along with 18 digs. Kylee Hartl led the team in that match with 22 digs.
In match four, the Wheelers had another challenging match against Colfax-Mingo. The Tigerhawks took set one 21-10, while in set two Audubon bounced back to win 21-17. The Wheelers had another drawn out set three, but the Tigerhawks picked up the set win 15-10. At 2-2 on the day, the Wheelers wrapped up the day with a rematch against Nodaway Valley, which Audubon was able to win. The Wheelers took set one 21-15, but dropped set two 21-17, meaning they had to play their fourth three set game of the day. Fortunately for them, the Wheelers won set three in convincing fashion 15-7. Christensen and Hartl led the team with 16 digs each while Christensen led the team once again in kills with five. Overall on the day, Hartl led the team with 70 digs, Christensen recorded 29 kills, and Hermansen set the ball well all day, recording 41 assists. The Wheelers went 3-2 on the day, improving to 8-8 on the season.
Prior to their match against Audubon, Glidden Ralston started their day off with a strong 2-0 sweep of Exira-EHK. The Wildcats won set one 21-14, and had to work in set two, but ultimately won 21-19. Janssen’s day started off with an 11 dig game against the Spartans while Laura Hulsing led her team with six kills. Following the loss to Audubon, it was right into the next match against Nodaway Valley. The Wolverines were taken to three sets against the Wildcats. Glidden Ralston took set one 21-17, dropped set two 27-25, and held on in set three, but ultimately lost 15-11. Janssen and Addy Boell led the team with a combined 10 digs, each recording five, and Vanessa Koehler leading with seven kills.
The Wildcats were able to end their day with a victory over West Central Valley. West Central Valley gave Glidden Ralston some trouble in set one, but Glidden Ralston was able to edge out their competition 21-19. Set two was much improved for Glidden Ralston as they picked up the match win with a 21-12 set win. Janssen continued to play well in the back row with nine digs, while Koehler led the Wildcats with five kills. Overall on the day, Janssen led the team with 37 digs, Boell gave good support upfront with 46 assists, and Paige Klocke, Lauren Hulsing, and Koehler all had double digit kills, 15, 14, and 20 respectively. The Wildcats end the tournament with a record of 2-2 and improve to 7-5 overall.
