Carroll Council Candidate, Jay Norgaard, Wants To Bring More Fiscal Responsibility To Position

Another candidate for Carroll’s City Council, Jay Norgaard, says he is not a politician by nature, but a common theme among candidates is what spurred the timing of his filing for the Ward One seat.

Norgaard says the Rec Center does a lot of good things for the residents of Carroll. It is more than just a facility and is important to many, but he does have a problem with a city-owned business operating at a loss that is directly competing with private business. He says we need to maintain it, but it also needs to be self-sustaining. This is one example he says of a main question the council should consider when debating projects and improvements in Carroll.

Norgaard says he is always proud to say he is from Carroll, having moved here when he was seven years old. He has lived in other places over his lifetime, but chose to come back to Carroll 27 years ago to raise his family. His grandfather founded Farner-Bocken Company and Norgaard says he sees a couple of areas where the city needs to focus efforts to keep the community a viable and attractive place for business and residency.

Norgaard says he has spent his adult life in business management, and he believes this background will provide innumerable benefits to the council and the people of Carroll. Being grounded in a common-sense and inclusive leadership style will help bring truly beneficial issues to the forefront. He provides an example.

He wants everyone to know he also promises to be a good steward of the hard-earned tax dollars that residents pay in for city management.

Norgaard and his wife, Sue, have been married for 31 years and have three sons, William, Ben and Jacob. The campaign filing deadline to be on the Nov. 2 ballot for the municipal election was last Thursday, and Norgaard will be running against Tom Bordenaro for the Ward One seat, which is currently held by Mike Kots, who is not seeking re-election.
