The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education convenes Thursday for their September meeting. The meeting will start 30 minutes earlier than usual and not at their usual location. Superintendent, Dr. Casey Berlau, says board members plan to meet at 5 p.m. at the Carroll High School (CHS) for a walkthrough tour of the facility.

Following the tour, they will call the September meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. in the CHS Media Center. Berlau says their first item of business is a report from Transportation Director, Jeff Cullen.

The focus will be primarily on CCSD’s in-town bus stop system that was implemented at the start of the year due to a shortage of drivers. School officials will then hear from Principal Tammie McKenzie about a few of the programs ongoing in CHS’ classrooms. Administrative reports are up next with discussions on a $5,000 per year professional development services agreement with TeamWorks International, a class-sharing agreement with Ar-We-Va, job description revisions and board policy reviews. Berlau says some of the last items on the agenda are from the business office, most of them focused on wrapping up Fiscal Year (FY) 2021.

School officials are scheduled to enter into a closed session at 7:10 p.m. under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(c), “to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are presently in litigation or where litigation is imminent where its disclosure would be likely to prejudice or disadvantage the position of the governmental body in that litigation.” Following the closed session, the board will consider action on a proposed settlement agreement for that case. The Thursday, Sept. 23 meeting begins at 5 p.m. at CHS. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. The full agenda can be found included with this story on our website.
