Damaged Stop Sign Proves To Be Hazard For Other Drivers

There were no injuries and only minor damage reported to a 2018 Chevrolet Traverse in a single-vehicle incident Saturday at Lake Panorama. The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at Canfield Drive and Sage Trail at approximately 1:25 p.m., for an accident that reportedly occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Forty-four-year-old Sara Ann Vaneffen of Guthrie Center told authorities she was eastbound on Canfield Road and was blinded by the sun. She did not see a stop sign that had reportedly been leaning toward the road for about a week and it scraped up the side of her vehicle. A witness also told authorities that the sign had been hit and damaged sometime within the past week or so. The stop sign was temporarily removed as it was a hazard. There was an estimated $4,000 in damage to the Vaneffen Traverse and about $300 in damage to the stop sign.
