On Tuesday, the Marion City Council announced they had narrowed a field of about 40 City Manager candidates to four finalists. Carroll City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, is one of those. He was contacted by a recruitment firm in July about the position for the community of just over 41,000 near Cedar Rapids after their current manager of the past 14 years announced they were leaving.
Pogge-Weaver further explains why this offer stood out above others.
Pogge-Weaver and the other three candidates will be attending a town hall and public reception next Friday, Oct. 1. He says the Marion council has indicated that a decision on their selection could be made as early as that weekend. Carroll city leaders were notified about Pogge-Weaver’s decision to apply.
If Pogge-Weaver is selected and accepts the position in Marion, the Carroll Council will be tasked with going through the same process. He must give 30 days-notice and the search and selection of a new candidate could take anywhere from four to six months. Regardless of the outcome, Pogge-Weaver wants people to know what an incredible community Carroll is.
Pogge-Weaver adds that even if he is not selected for the Marion position, it does not necessarily mean he will be leaving the city.
Pogge-Weaver has been Carroll City Manager since October of 2016. Prior to that he spent three and a half years as Swift County, Minn. County Administrator, six and a half as City Planner in Stillwell, Minn. and as a City Planner in Ankeny. He will, of course, follow protocols directed by the Carroll City Council, but will certainly keep the public informed on the outcome of this process.
