Plea Agreement Shows Carroll Man Charged With Drug Trafficking For Third Time In Less Than A Year Will Serve Time In Prison

A Carroll man charged in Carroll County District Court with drug trafficking for the third time in less than a year pled guilty this week to the latest charges levied against him. Court records show 33-year-old Nicholas Russell Pickering, who has also listed residences in Maple River and Lake City, was arrested following a May 11 traffic stop by the Carroll Police Department and Carroll County Sheriff’s Office. A search of Pickering’s vehicle at the time revealed multiple baggies containing methamphetamine, cash, glass smoking devices and other narcotics-related items. Pickering will plead guilty to a lesser included offense, possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a class C felony. Court documents filed Tuesday indicate the parties have requested a non-suspended prison sentence. Pickering will also plead guilty to violating his probation that stemmed from a May 2021 convictions on drug possession charges. As part of a plea agreement in that case, Pickering pled guilty to three serious misdemeanor counts after arrests in November and February on felony drug charges. As of Wednesday morning, he remained in custody at the Carroll County jail pending a sentencing hearing.
