IKM-Manning looked sharp, picking up their first win of the season. Audubon continued to work on transitioning from a 6-2 to a 5-1 due to injury and struggled at times. The first and third sets were pretty tight with IKM-Manning pulling away late. The Wolves dominated the 2nd set and improved to 1-15 on the season and 1-4 in the Western Iowa Conference. Audubon falls to 8-10 overall and 0-5 in the Western Iowa Conference.
The Wolves started quickly in all three sets, leading 2-0,5-0 and 1-0. The first set would bounce back and forth as the Wheelers tied the set at 2 and took their first lead at 5-4. The Wolves answered and went back up 6-5 and held the lead into the middle of the set. Audubon grabbed a lead and stretched it to 2 after trailing by 5 at 11-6. The lead was short-lived as IKM-Manning went back up 17-16 and were never tied again. Audubon did pull within 1 at 20-19 but the Wolves closed out the set on a 5-1 run. Kylie Powers and Taylor Ferneding had nice service runs for the Wolves during the set. The first set was tied seven times and had four lead changes.
IKM-Manning jumped out 5-0 in set two and never looked back. The Wolves dominated in every aspect and built a 22-4 lead before Aububon gained some momentum late. The Wolves were getting big hits from Jessica Christensen and Bianca Cadwell and their 6-2 with Taylor Ferneding and Amber Halbur were working well with their hitters. Aduubon struggled in serve recieve and were out of system most of the set. That led them to struggle at the net and they were sending over free balls that IKM-Manning took advantage of. The Wolves won 25-13 to take a 2-0 lead.
Audubon came out better in the 3rd set and went ahead 2-1. The set was tied seven times and there were four lead changes before IKM-Manning again pulled away late. They took the final lead at 12-11 and built a 7 point lead. Audubon tried to rally but could only cut the gap to 5.
Bianca Cadwell led a strong Wolves attack at the net with 13 kills, Jessica Christensen and Amber Halbur each had 7 kills. Taylor Ferneding finished with a match high 16 assists and Amber Halbur added 12. Bianca Cadwell and Jessica Christensen each finished with 11 digs and Cadwell added a pair of aces.
Jaci Christensen had a team high 8 kills for Audubon, which finished with 17 kills as a team. Addie Hocker dished out 11 assists. Kylee Hartl paced their back row with 18 digs, Jaci Christensen added 9 digs and Aleah Hermansen had 8 digs.
The Wolves host AHSTW on Thursday while Audubon heads to Treynor on Tuesday.

South Central Calhoun and SE Valley at Pocahontas Area
South Central Calhoun swept both Pocahontas Area and Southeast Valley at the Pocahontas Area triangular Thursday night.
The Indians gave the Titans some trouble in set one, keeping it close all throughout. Ultimately, South Central Calhoun was able to grab the slight edge and win set one 25-23. Set two for South Central Calhoun came a bit easier for them as they’d pick up the 25-12 set win. Riley Batta led her team in this game in the front row, recording a team high 13 kills. Brenna McAlister also made great plays all around, recording five kills, four digs, and a team high six aces. Set three saw Pocahontas Area bring some more pressure to South Central Calhoun, but again the Titans were able to grab the set win at 25-18 and ultimately win the match.
South Central Calhoun’s match against Southeast Valley was a 3-0 victory in favor of the Titans, but no set scores were available. McAlister for the Titans led the team with 11 kills, while Batta and Keira Hammen both recorded nine kills, along with Hammen recorded a team high five blocks.
The Titans improve to 17-13 on the season. They return to action on Thursday, September 30th with a match against Manson-NW Webster.

Coon Rapids Bayard had a close match against Woodbine with close sets all night, but the Tigers got the better of the Crusaders Thursday.
From set one, the matchup between both teams was close. The Crusaders gave the Tigers a great effort, but ultimately Woodbine grabbed the set win at 25-23. Coon Rapids Bayard brought set two into extra points and were just as impressive. While still bringing their A-game, Woodbine was still able to edge out the Crusaders 27-25. Breeley Clayburg was a good match for Woodbine’s height as she led her team with 13 kills and Lacie Davis gave her team good support in the back row with a team leading 20 digs. Set three finally went the Crusaders way, although they had to work hard for it. Woodbine held on for as long as they could, but Coon Rapids Bayard picked up the close set three win 25-23. Set four was where Woodbine was able to put away the Crusaders as they’d win with a wider point margin at 25-14 and win the overall match 3-1 in sets.
The Crusaders are off until Thursday, September 30th where they will take on Boyer Valley at home.

East Sac continued to impress this season as they swept Emmetsburg Thursday night.
The E-Hawks gave the Raiders some stiff competition in set one, but East Sac was able to squeeze by with a 25-21 set win. East Sac in set two still had to battle against Emmetsburg, but the point spread was more in favor of the Raiders as they won 25-17. The biggest playmaker for East Sac was Meredith Brown who led the team with 14 kills and six blocks. She had good assistance from the back row with Mary Bontrager recording six digs, and Paige Wunschel leading the team with seven digs. Set three was another good battle for East Sac as they’d eventually win the set 25-16 and sweep the E-Hawks to pick up win number 15.
The Raiders are off for the remainder of the week and will be back in action on Tuesday, September 28th where they will take on Southeast Valley on the road.

Ar-We-Va had a close battle in set two against Boyer Valley, but it was the Bulldogs who won the match in three sets.
The Rockets in set one were able to record double digit points, but couldn’t get off to a good start, falling 25-12 in the set. Set two is where the Rockets started to click, finding ways to score points and keep Boyer Valley on their toes. Maggie Ragaller gave Ar-We-Va a strong presence on offense and defense, leading the team with five kills and 11 digs. While set two saw the Rockets improve, they ultimately fell 26-24. Boyer Valley got back to form in set three and were able to win the match with a 25-11 set win.
Ar-We-Va Head Coach Darin Schurke says at times his team was able to pass the ball well, but they have to be more consistent at playing that way all game long. Ar-We-Va will not have any games next week, but will pick back up on Tuesday, October 5th with a match against CAM Anita on the road.

Paton Churdan had a tough night against Exira-EHK on Thursday, but they showed signs of improvement. The Spartans in all three sets won by the same point total, showing Paton Churdan was able to give Exira-EHK a run for their money. Ultimately, the Spartans won sets one, two, and three by a score of 25-17. Paige Teeples for the Rockets had six kills and four aces alongside a Paton Churdan offense that showed great potential.
Paton Churdan’s only game next week will be against Glidden Ralston on the road on Thursday, September 30th.
