A Storm Lake man was taken into custody Thursday after forcing his way into a residence and assaulting the homeowner. The Storm Lake Police Department was dispatched at approximately 7 a.m. to the 500 block of Swallum Drive. The victim told law enforcement the suspect, identified as 28-year-old Deon Parkhurst, had forcefully entered the home and stole a cell phone before fleeing from the scene on a bicycle. Authorities searched the area but were not able to locate Parkhurst. Later that day, Parkhurst was found in the 500 block of W. 9th Street and arrested. He is charged with second-degree burglary, a class C felony, and assault and obstruction of emergency communications, simple misdemeanors. Parkhurst was booked into the Buena Vista County jail and held on a $10,600 bond.
