At the last meeting of the Carroll City Council, the first reading of an ordinance amendment for the proposed increase to fees at the Rec Center was waived and the subject tabled. That ordinance amendment will be brought back up at tonight’s (Monday’s) council meeting. Director of Parks and Recreation, Jack Wardell, says that fees were increased last year, but as personnel, capital and service costs have risen, an increase in membership fees is needed to help offset them.
Last year the Rec implemented a series of rates for non-residents of Carroll.
Wardell says he doesn’t believe they have implemented increases at more than five percent in years past. However, they have also seen a decline in membership during the pandemic along with that increase in costs.
The Parks and Recs board discussed the increase in July and supported an amount between five and 10 percent, but did not recommend anything specific. Council member, LaVern Dirkx had a concern about the percentage amount and Clay Haley would like to hear more from the general public.
The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, which convenes at 5:15 p.m. tonight in the council chambers at Carroll City Hall, either in-person or by computer or phone.
