Jerry White of Churdan

Jerry William White, the son of Earl and Doris (Kimmer) White, was born December 21, 1938 in Ft. Dodge, IA, and departed this life on Friday, October 1, 2021, at Regency Park in Jefferson, IA.  He lived his life to the age of 82 years, 9 months, and 11 days. 

     Mass of the Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan with Fr. John Gerald as Celebrant.  Lector for the Mass will be John White.  Music for the Mass will be provided by the St. Columbkille Choir with Lois Last as organist.  Gift bearers will be Jessica Croghan and Rachel White.  Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Churdan with military honors by the Churdan American Legion and the United States Navy.  The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. The family invites you for fellowship and dessert to follow the graveside service in parish hall.

     Jerry attended and graduated from the Churdan High School in 1957.  He enlisted into the Army National Guard in May of 1956 and in July 1957 was honorably discharged and enlisted into the United States Navy where he served until May 1962 at which time he was honorably discharged.  Jerry White was united in Marriage to Sandra Schleisman on November 23, 1963, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Carroll, IA.  Jerry and Sandi made their home in Churdan and three children were born to this union; Steven, John, and Stacie. 

     Jerry worked full time with his father at the White’s Phillips 66 Oil Station and tank wagon service after his discharge from the U. S. Navy.  In 1968, they expanded the business to include appliances and CB radios. In 1980, after Earl’s retirement, Jerry and Sandi took over management of the business.  Jerry and Sandi started J & S Sales and Jerry sold used cars as well as traveled most of Iowa selling oil for big machinery.  Jerry never retired.   

     Jerry served on the Churdan Fire Department and Ambulance Service for more than 40 years.  He took part in many fireworks shows for Churdan and many more watermelon feeds on the 4th of July.  He was a member of the St. Columbkille’s Catholic Church, the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the NRA. Jerry had a huge heart and gave of himself generously; his grandchildren, family, and animals were a few his biggest loves. 

     Jerry is survived by his children; Steven of Churdan, John and his wife, Aileen, and John’s children; Rachel and Noah of Omaha and Stacie Croghan and her husband, Brian, and their children; Jessica and Taylor of Templeton, two brothers-in-law Jim Schleisman of Farnhamville and Jerry Wiscus and his wife Ruth of Lidderdale; and nieces and nephews.  

     Jerry was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Doris White; his father and mother-in-law Don and Mary Schleisman; and his wife Sandi White in 2017.
