Photo: On Sept. 21, the Marion City Council announced they had four finalists vying for the position of City Manager. Carroll’s City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, was on that list.
This past Friday, Oct. 1, Carroll City Manager, Mike Pogge-Weaver, attended a public forum and meet-and-greet reception in Marion as part of the application process for the role of City Manager for that eastern Iowa community of just over 41,000. Pogge-Weaver was selected to be one of four finalists to attend the event from a pool of around 40 applicants. The Marion City Council has scheduled a virtual work session for today (Tuesday, Oct. 5) that will begin at 4 p.m. The final item on the lengthy agenda for today’s meeting includes a closed session with two measures one regarding a real estate acquisition and the other identified under Iowa Code 21.5(1)(i), “To evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session.” This is also identified as their discussion on the City Manager appointment. The Marion council will then meet in regular session on Thursday, Oct. 7. It is not yet known when a formal announcement on the appointment will be made, but Carroll Broadcasting will bring you that information as soon as it becomes available.
