Animals created problems for motorists in Greene County over the past several days, with the Greene County Sheriff’s Office responding to cow and deer accidents. The first accident was reported at approximately 8:39 p.m. last Friday on Highway 4, near 190th Street, north of Jefferson. Fifty-two-year-old Herbert Miller of Paton hit a cow that was on the roadway with the 2017 Dodge Grand Caravan he was driving. There was an estimated $7,000 in damages to the vehicle from the calf, belonging to Kris Hoskins of Jefferson. The second accident was reported at approximately 6:44 a.m. on Monday on Highway 4, near 300th Street, south of Jefferson. Forty-three-year-old Sonny Williams of Georgia struck a deer with the 2014 Ford F-150 he was driving, causing an estimated $5,000 in damage. No injuries were reported in either accident, but authorities are reminding motorists that the harvest has many animals on the move. They should be alert and exercise extreme caution while traveling on rural roadways.
